We are a passionate group of young writers based in Asheville, NC, brought together by our love of the written word–not as a consumable product, but as self-expression, communication, art. We despise boundaries, refuse to be confined by genre or form, and adore the weird and wonderful.
Juniper Bends began as a reading series established by the eminent Mesha Maren and Matt Owens, also formerly of UNCAsheville, who have gone on to dare bigger and better things in the grand state of Iowa. The Juniper Bends Reading Series has hosted diverse and lovely voices ranging from Blake Butler (author of the novel There is No Year) to Kate Zambreno (author of lyric novel Green Girl) to Feng Sun Chen (experimental poetess and web-writer).
Now, we are proud to announce the Juniper Bends Author Collective, a collaborative, community-based author network, literary magazine, and publishing initiative that seeks to connect writers with readers and vice-versa. This blog will be the web-based center for our news and exploits. Check back for awesome writing, fun events in AVL and beyond, as well as discussion about writing as both craft and “alternative lifestyle.”
